I agree completely. Mildred in particular was used as a clunky infodump device, which could have been handled much better by the writer. Instead of having her "remember" everything, some simple detective work would have worked wonders. An unfortunate weakness in an otherwise entertaining story.

I hadn't noticed Doc having this problem so much, but I'll keep an ear out for it in future.

Thanks for your comment.

I thought this was one of the better Deathlands.

With a caveat: it seems that too often either Mildred or, even more implausibly, Doc, know a lot of history of their current surroundings.

It's just too 'pat' that Mildred had visited the area. It's just too 'pat' in several books that Doc, who only spent two or three years in the 20th century, could quote: W.C.Fields, read both H.P. Lovecraft and the Lord of the Rings...

Well, you get my drift. In Doc's case, he just wasn't around the 20th century long enough to learn all of that post-1880's stuff he spouts off about.

As for Mildred? That old song 'I've Been Everywhere' comes to mind. I'm older than she's supposed to have been when she went into cryo. (she's born in '64. I was born in '60) I've not been to that many places, and I spent six years in the US Navy. Lived in eight states, visited eight countries, etc. Not counting all the other places I've been to...

Other than that, it's great escapist literature, or audiobook. Quite entertaining.
