Fresh from the Emerald Isle comes this new treat from Roger Gregg, a scene from a new production of Faustus… Roger has been talking about his desire about doing Faustus since I visited back in 2008, and it’s thrilling to see it becoming a reality.

Here is a scene from the new show which will run in Dublin from November 18 to the 26th in Smock Alley Theatre:

I asked Roger whether there will be an audio adaptation of this work, similar to what he did with The Stuff of Myth. Roger says:

Yes … In fact one of the central tenets of the stage show is have an on-going live sound score being performed on stage by all the demons. Using no pre-recorded material, very little amplification and employing many ‘OTR’ type sound effects gadgets in with the musical instruments.

There are many imagistic scenes in which very little is said and the story is conveyed through the movement and actions of the actors and the sound-scape and music.

So the audio version will be a ‘Concept Album’ with alot of musical passages.

This new show is so exciting that I’m tempted to cash in some frequent flyer miles to see the show myself. Share new Crazy Dog’age with your friends!

As you may remember, for New Year’s of this year I finally got to see The Post-Meridian Radio Players live on First Night, doing one of their originals Red Shift, Interplanetary Do-gooder (a fun spin-off/tribute to campy 50s sci-fi) as well as their rendition of Arch Obeler’s classic “Chicken Heart.”

To kick off the excitement for their upcoming Halloween show (more on that in a moment), they’ve launched a YouTube channel with clips from the January show:

For more clips, see their new YouTube channel. In short: they played staggeringly well before a packed house at the Orpheum Theater, and now they’re back for their annual Halloween show, which is bigger than ever. In fact, they’re calling it “The Big Broadcast of October 30th, 1938.”

Now we are able to bring you the true story of the Martian Invasion of Boston, using news bulletins and field reports – as given by the actual announcers, historical figures and military personnel at the time, and dramatic recreations to depict the amazing story of how a North End mobster, an MIT scientist, and the Massachusetts National Guard allied themselves to carry out one final strike against the Martians and drive them from the city!

Thank you Google Alerts for turning me on to this one — today (that’s Dec 3) there will be a live dramatization of “A Christmas Carol” put on at the Brewer, Maine Middle School and broadcast online on WHSN-FM.

The Bangor Daily News covered the live dramatization in depth.

Brewer’s a bit of a haul, even for me, but I think you’ll be able to hear it streamed online at: WHSN’s website. There are also rumors that it’ll be podcast later on.

And in case you miss this for your Scrooge fix, note that Radio Drama Revival will be broadcasting Quicksilver Radio Theatre’s rendition of A Christmas Carol for the Christmas Day episode.

Ghoulish tales for the ear were heard last night as goblins and ghosts radiated out through the radio waves…

Well a few weeks back I mentioned live “Dracula” in Kenosha, Wisconson, and for those of you lucky enough to be in the area tonight you can go check out RG Productions‘ “Retro Radio Holiday Revue.”? This show features favorite comedies from the Old Time Radio era:? Jack Benny, Burns & Allen, Fibber McGee & Molly, and Bob Hope.? Starts just a few hours from now, 1 p.m. at the Kenosha Public Museum.

Now for all of us our here in cyber-land, they promise to have the show archived on the website within a week, and you can now check out their haunting take on Dracula to tide you over!

Audio fans in the Kenosha, Wisconsin area will be treated to a live production of Orson Welles’ adaptation of Dracula this Halloween.? The drama is being produced by Wisconson-based RG Productions, an audio theater group that produces faithful re-creations of old time stuff and has ties with other producers, including the Willamette Radio Workshop.? It sounds like a lot of fun, and for those of us many, many miles from Wisconsin, I hope they put it up on the web!
